Wow where has the time gone!!
I'm convinced blogging is all about showing you how fast time rums away with your life !! Anyway, just got back from a fortnight of wonderful weather in Cyprus. 34 degrees every day, and not even a single drop of rain. I love Cyprus now I've had the chance to explore it, and understand how it works. I had been before..with BT back in 2006, but it was only for 4 days, and in May. It was very pleasant then, and I guess it gave me the hunger to go back and explore in more detail. I have a worry that Coral Bay will become the 'Benidorm' in Cyprus. Already the local traders cater almost exclusively for English speaking tourists, and there is no real incentive to pick up a few phrases in Greek, but head up to the Troodos hills and visit villages like Omodhos with it's alleys of lacemaking shops etc. You will still see souvenir shops selling dodgy DVDs, replica guns, and replica perfume.... Who buys this stuff!! but there is also some real cypriot culture on the journey there. My family and I loved it, and will probably go back some other time. As for now, it's nearly the end of my first week back, and I'm shattered... Oh well Xmas is not far away !!!

I just forgot where my blog was until Google told me.
Well I'm completely dumbfounded...How could I have forgotten all about my blog!!! Unforgiveable... Well I can make excuses as much as I like.... I've been out and found a job as an IT Consultant with a great small company called Collective Purchasing...I've been there 14 months now and absolutely love it. While I don't miss the hassle of working for Corporate BT, I do miss some of the friends I made in the 39 years I was there. My perception of BT now I'm outside has changed, and I guess it might have been this change that helped me take the decision to leave. It is a great company to work for, but I think it is so wrapped up in doing what appears to be the right thing, it loses track of what really needs to be done. Customer Service is the key to any service industry, and all the time BT spends looking in to itself, it loses the opportunities to look out at customers and suppliers. Why train all your managers to Six Sigma green belts when poorly maintained external plant is the root cause of your customer's dissatisfaction, or whatever is!! No amount of 'professional' qualifications is going to stop damage to cables in cabs and pillars by continual 'quick fixes' etc. I was a tactical systems manager and I provided tactical solutions to IT/Data problems, until proper planned fixes could be implemented. That job description becomes worthless as you move higher in the management tree. From above all managers are the same and a corporate initiative for all managers is for ALL managers. Most of it wasted on specialists like me.
I'm writing this on a pleasant Friday in May, about to pack up and leave for home. I love my new job, and hope to be here doing what I do for a good while... I might have something more interesting to put in my blog now I've found it again !!!
